A Tale of Two Days

I had the best day!

-I jogged a mile this morning and listened to music that made me want to dance
-I ate Reese’s Puffs for breakfast
-My girls were in a good mood when they woke up
-I saw some cool lizards outside on my garbage cans
-We got to go to the Children’s Museum for free
-I got to catch up with a friend and see her new baby
-Tina had a great time at the museum and didn’t fight me when it was time to go home
-We walked through the park and it was beautiful outside
-Tina pooped in the big potty!
-I started watching a new show and liked it
-Lil Spits and Tina were super snuggly today and were making each other laugh
-Spouse Unit just got home!

.............................................................................................................................................................

I had the worst day!
-My husband woke me up early to go jogging and I wanted to sleep in
-I had to take the garbage out to the street since he forgot, which made me late for a playdate
-All of the parking spots were taken so I had to park half a mile away from my playdate
-A little boy picked on Tina and pulled her hair
-It was hot and humid, and I was sweating buckets walking back to the car
-When I stopped to get the mail, the car wouldn’t start up again
-Tina pooped on the floor
-Tina threw a tantrum
-Lil Spits wouldn’t stop whining today
-The girls wouldn’t leave me alone while I was writing my blog post
-Spouse Unit has been gone all day again
-There’s a cooking activity at the church that I really want to go to, but I can’t because of the car

Here’s the thing: the two days I described are actually the same day. So many times I only read about the positive, and the struggles are covered up. So many times I only read about the doom and gloom, and the positives are overlooked. It’s time to be genuine and honest about the positives and the negatives because they both exist. You can’t have one without the other.

-I accidentally deleted this whole post, and was able to recover it on my phone. Praise modern technology!

Most of my days are like the day I described above, and I can’t say yours look exactly like mine, but I can make a guess that they’re just as hard and just as rewarding. I would encourage you to acknowledge both the positive and the negative things in your life, but keep the positive in your memories. Learn from the negative, then let go.

Now it’s time for me to go. I need to make dinner and snuggle my clingy and crying children and husband. Just kidding, he’s not crying, just clingy.

Hasta la pasta, ya’ll.

  1. This was perfect! I think I try to categorize my days like that all the time. "The boys have been whiny all day it's a bad day" or "I got so much accomplished, today it's a good day" but you're exactly right! My days look much like yours. A little bit of good, a little bit of bad, a whole lot of real life. :) Thanks for this perspective!

    1. That's a good way to put it! "I had a real life day." Thanks for always reading and always giving me positive feedback! Miss you, love you, Mrs. McRory!
