Our Father's Glorious Plan

Good morning, everyone!

I hope you all had a Happy Pioneer Day yesterday if you're familiar with LDS culture, and if not, I hope you had a happy Monday and that you got to eat some pie.

Today is a short blog post, because I don't have much to say but I did want to share some of the feelings of my heart.

Today is the funeral of one of my relatives. He was young, talented, intelligent, witty, a great guy, and was very loved, but lost sight of hope and last week he lost his fight to depression. To say I am sorry to hear of his passing is an understatement. I wish I could be with our families today.

This morning as I was trudging, rather grumpily, along trying to make my family breakfast I listened to an LDS General Conference talk by Elder Weatherford T. Clayton called "Our Father's Glorious Plan." I don't think it's a coincidence that this talk came on today of all days. Listening to Elder Clayton's voice as he told of the passing of a woman he knew some years ago brought the Spirit into the room and softened my heart. It brought me to tears as he testified that she was no longer suffering and that she had returned home. I felt the same truth echoed for my cousin's son, Naythan.

I don't know why people suffer the trials that they do while others don't but I know we're not alone in our suffering. We have angels round about us to bear us up, we have Jesus Christ who suffered and died for us so that we would be spared some of the pain of this life through repentance, and we have our family and friends. Strangers have been prompted to help me in my times of need, and I have been prompted to help strangers in time of theirs. There is a God in Heaven that knows you better than you know yourself and He loves you perfectly. Turn to Him when you are struggling, and then turn outward and serve others.

Naythan's family has asked that in lieu of flowers that you do something kind for someone who is struggling. I would pass that challenge along to you today. Pray for Naythan's family if you can. And if you know someone dealing with depression or mental illness, give them extra hugs today. Thank them for still being here, because their place in the world is invaluable.

Thanks for reading,

Melissa
